What is LEND?
Lending for Evanston and Northwestern Development (LEND) is a student-run, non-profit organization that empowers local entrepreneurs to cultivate businesses, create jobs, and reach financial self-sufficiency. By providing access to small loans and business development services, LEND is devoted to connecting the Northwestern and Evanston communities under the shared objectives of aiding businesses, economic development, and social change.
Impact on the community through NSH’s donation
Prize money will be used towards providing small amounts of capital ranging from $500 to $5,000 to credit-constrained small business owners in the Evanston area, thus supporting these entrepreneurs in realizing their business ambitions. Unlike traditional lenders, our staff members meet weekly with clients during and beyond the loan period, developing a relationship that transcends that of creditor and borrower. Ultimately, these strong relationships provide clients with a trusted advisor, help ensure loan repayment, and foster goodwill between Northwestern University and the City of Evanston.
